Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

What it is:
RAP lets you start an apprenticeship while still in high school. You can earn high school credits, gain hands-on work experience, and start earning hours toward your trade certification.

RAP is a great fit if you:
☐ Want to work toward a career in the trades.
☐ Prefer hands-on learning.
☐ Enjoy learning on the job rather than in a traditional classroom.

With over 50 certified trades in Alberta, RAP can help you explore your options and get a head start on your future.

RAP Checklist

☐ Find a job in your chosen trade where a journeyperson is working.
☐ Get, complete, and return your RAP contract and Learning Plan.
☐ Apply for your Blue Book through Alberta Industry Training.
☐ Complete the online HCS3000 Workplace Safety course and earn at least 50%.
☐ Submit signed timesheets monthly during the school year. In September, submit your timesheets for the summer months.
☐ After your first 125 hours, meet with the RAP coordinator to discuss whether the program is a good fit for you.
☐ Every 125 hours, submit both your employer and student evaluation forms. It is your responsibility to make sure both forms are completed and handed in. These evaluations make up most of your course grade.
☐ If you are in Grade 12, submit your final timesheet and evaluation forms by the last day of regularly scheduled classes in June.
☐ Stay in regular contact with your school RAP coordinator. Let them know about changes to your job, new skills or duties, workplace concerns, or changes to your registration information.
